Academician Yuan Longping once said, "Let the Chinese people have their own rice bowl." His dream started at Anjiang Agricultural School in Hunan Province.

After graduating from Southwest Agricultural College in 1953, Yuan Longping was assigned to work at Hunan Anjiang Agricultural School. When he stepped into Hunan Anjiang, the clear water instantly attracted him, and since then, his vigorous figure could often be seen on the river.
However, in 1960, the familiar figure came to an abrupt end. In his autobiography, Yuan Longping expressed the sadness behind it: "I had no choice but to stop swimming because I was hungry and could not fill my stomach." In the torture of hunger he experienced personally, he resolutely made a great ambition to use his life's energy to defeat hunger with the power of agricultural technology.
In 1961, Yuan Longping discovered a rice plant that stood out from the crowd in the early rice fields of Anjiang Agricultural School. It was a natural hybrid rice with tall plants, large ears and many grains. This discovery pointed out a new direction for his hybrid rice research.
After many trials and tribulations, the “three-line” hybrid rice breeding was successfully completed in 1973. In 1986, Yuan Longping formally proposed a hybrid rice breeding strategy and studied the two-line hybrid rice breeding method, which was finally successful in 1995.
In 1997, Yuan Longping proposed a super hybrid rice breeding technology route and led a scientific research team to carry out high-yield research. In 2017, he proposed the concept of the third-generation hybrid rice, attempting to use molecular technology to utilize the hybrid advantages between indica and japonica rice subspecies to increase rice yields.

Yuan Longping's hybrid rice technology has been promoted to more than 50 countries and regions including India, Bangladesh, and Vietnam.It has made important contributions to solving the global food problem. For example, in Africa and other regions, the cultivation of hybrid rice has helped increase local food production and alleviate hunger.
His dream of "enjoying the coolness under the rice plants" not only carries his infinite longing for agricultural research, but also contains deep feelings for his family and country.His student Deng Huafeng recalled that many years ago, Yuan asked him, "Do you know why I have been pursuing high and higher yields?" Deng Huafeng replied that it was "the dream of enjoying the shade of the rice plants."

Yuan shook his head and said, "Our country has a large population, and high-quality economic development requires more high-quality arable land. As agricultural science and technology workers, we must have a sense of responsibility and urgency to provide high-yield varieties and technologies to free up more arable land for the country's economic development."
From the time he started research on super hybrid rice with an output of 900 kg per mu at the age of 74, to the time he started research on a yield of 1,000 kg per mu at the age of 82, to the time he started research on a yield of 1,000 kg per mu at the age of 84, 88, and 90... He never stopped working in the field of scientific research, cultivating the third, fourth, and fifth generations of hybrid rice and salt-alkali tolerant rice. With his lifelong perseverance and dedication, he wrote about his deep affection for the earth and his love for his country.

A great scientist who has contributed to his country, but in private he is a very lovely, simple, interesting and life-loving person. It is a great honor that WeiMuKaiLa has been connected with Grandpa Yuan as early as 2016, and has obtained the authorization of Academician Yuan to create his silicone statue and introduce Curtain Open La. At that time, WeiMuKaiLa's team went to Changsha, Hunan to tailor Grandpa Yuan's body.

Ms.Zhou Xuerong also took the audience to review the Grandpa Yuan who had a balanced life, loved sports, and loved studying science in the recent "Wax Figure Revealed" program. Many interesting things happened when making the silicone statue of Grandpa Yuan.

In order to make the silicone statue more vivid, the original clothes, shoes, socks and other accessories are usually used. The plaid clothes given by Mr. Yuan were already the most glamorous clothes of Mr. Yuan, and even the shoes had holes in them.

During the process of making the silicone sculpture of Mr. Yuan, Teacher Zhou Xuerong shared with great interest the "strange appearance" of Mr. Yuan. Most people's hair tends to grow naturally downwards along the hair whorls like an umbrella. However, Mr. Yuan is unique. The hair on both sides of his head grows from the back of his head to the front, and the hair on the top of his head stands straight up.
Because he has been working in the fields for a long time and immersed in heavy farm work, the tips of Mr. Yuan's fingers appear larger than those of ordinary people.

Why did you make a silicone sculpture of Yuan? In the mind of Ms.Zhou Xuerong, Yuan's focus on rice research is the best interpretation of scientific exploration. His slightly narrowed eyes, staring at the rice, seem to be able to see through the years, and the figure of Yuan working hard in the fields and in the laboratory emerges one by one.
She hopes that through the image of Mr. Yuan who "only has rice in his eyes", she can convey an indomitable and unyielding scientific spirit, and make the scientific spirit concrete so that it will always shine and inspire everyone.
