August 26, 2024

This summer brings a new storm, the wisecracking champion Deadpool paired with the lone hero Wolverine,Deadpool and Wolverine unite to create wonders in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Released for only three weeks, The movie “Deadpool and Wolverine” has already surpassed $1 billion at the global box office, heading straight for the 2024 box office runner-up.

Wasn't Wolverine terminated in the movie “Logan”?

How is he appearing again?

What's going on? Let's find out together.

The Worst Wolverine Ever has been resurrected

Reverting back to 2017, Hugh Jackman led the final chapter of Logan, where Wolverine, in a heart-wrenching battle, exhausted his last strength to protect an innocent young mutant, meeting his end in a heroic sacrifice that touched many viewers.

This film can also be regarded as the final brilliant glory of 20th Century Fox. Moreover, it stands as one of the rare superhero movies to receive an Oscar nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay.

As a blockbuster sequel, the most critical challenge faced by the movie“Deadpool and Wolverine” was how to successfully revive the charismatic role of Wolverine without compromising the shining achievements of the movie “Logan”.

Praiseworthy is the fact that the creators of the movie “Deadpool and Wolverine” did not opt to simply resurrect Wolverine, as that would have diminished the poignant sacrifice in the movie “Logan” and the character of Wolverine. Instead, they cleverly utilized the intricate framework of the multiverse worldview introduced by Marvel post- the movie “Avengers: Endgame” to navigate this challenge.

In the movie “Deadpool and Wolverine,” Wolverine comes from another parallel universe, mocked as the worst Wolverine ever for betraying loved ones. However, after teaming up with Deadpool to save the universe's timeline, this worst Wolverine ever also successfully undergoes his own growth and transformation.

Getting in shape at 55 is not easy; Hugh Jackman returns to Wolverine

Perfect muscle lines, claws of steel that cut like butter, and a highly individual hairstyle have become the classic symbols of Wolverine.

Hugh Jackman started portraying Wolverine in the 2000 movie “X-Men” at the age of 32, continuing until the movie “Logan” in 2017 when he was 49, with a total of 9 Wolverine-related films.

At 55, when he took up the Wolverine role again, he said, “When I came back to it, it was really fun and I was thrilled. My body was a little sore at first, but I'm so happy it still reacts.”

He also said, “ I have to eat a lot. For me, with my body type, I've always been very skinny. Getting to that size was probably the most challenging part, the part that made me scratch my head.”

Ryan Reynolds, who plays Deadpool, said “His relentless effort with stunts and action sequences, the ferocity of the body that I saw in Hugh Jackman. I cannot believe it.His speed and confidence in combat. He hit the mark faster than I've ever seen. Whether he’s 25, 35, 45, or 55, the speed he present is like lightning.”

With sharp eyes, a body of muscle, bulging veins, and that handsome hairstyle, how did we create such a Wolverine?

The sharpness of the eyes lies in the sculpting and control of the details around the eyes. Wax artists sculpt and restore these details, taking inspiration from the materials found in movies and comic book characters, and combining them with personal interpretations. They focus on creating the angle of the eyes looking up, slightly protruding eyeballs, leaving room for the sclera, and the coordination with the frowning of the eyebrows, in order to evoke the power of the gaze.

When dealing with the muscles and the bulging veins on the body, digital sculpting is first used for printing, followed by the creation of the rough form. Color is then applied to the rough form to give it texture. In the treatment of the bulging veins, colorists use a combination of virtual and real colors to create a transition, providing a more natural appearance of the bulging veins.

When creating wax figure hairstyles, besides using real human hair materials, the hairstyle restoration is based on the character's features. Hair gel styling is utilized to achieve visual representation of the hairstyle from various angles.
